Thousands of idols will be immersed in the five main lakes in the city over the next nine days.

Civic officials say with water bodies like Hebbal Lake, Sankey tank and Yalandur Lake already heavily polluted, mobile immersion tanks would help in checking further pollution.

Since people prefer to immerse the idols in lakes and tanks, the civic authorities have earmarked a specific space in these water bodies for the purpose.

Civic officials, home guards and police will be on duty to ensure that idols are immersed only at designated areas.

A spokesperson of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board said it has arranged for 11 mobile immersion tanks which would go around specific areas from Saturday evening.

The Bruhat Bangalore City Corporation is also sending out an equal number of vehicles to different areas for the purpose.

Their location and timing has been given wide publicity so that more and more people immerse the idols in the mobile tanks rather than in lakes.
