New Delhi : Two youngsters were killed and three critically injured after their car was hit by a speeding truck when the youth were returning from a birthday bash in south Delhi Saturday, the police said.
The accident occurred early Saturday, when the truck hit the youths’ Esteem car near Kumsum Restaurant in Defence Colony area.
Monu, 28, Amit Yadav, 25, Vijay Yadav, 23, Guarav, 21, and Bhim, 26, were travelling in the ill-fated car. The youth were inebriated, the police said.
Monu, who was driving, and Amit, who sat in the adjacent front seat, both residents of Khirki extension in south Delhi, succumbed to their injuries in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Monu was a gym instructor at a fitness centre in Gurgaon, and was married with a two-year-old child. Amit worked as software engineer for a private firm in the capital, the police said.
The condition of the other three youth was reported to be critical, while the truck’s driver Raghubir Singh, a resident of Jaipur, was recovering at AIIMS.
“The youths were drunk and were returning home after attending a birthday bash. Monu first lost control of the car and collided it with the road divider. The car turned upside down on the divider,” said a senior police official.
“Singh, who was speeding the truck on his side of road, applied the emergency brakes but could not stop the collision. The truck dragged the car to over some distance before it stopped and the car occupants could come out,” the official added.
No case was registered yet, and investigations ware underway, he added.
