Srinagar: Militants attack convoy of Border Security forces (BSF) in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, this afternoon, official sources said.
Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the militants, who had laid an ambush near Sopore Nagam road in Handwara, fired upon the BSF vehicles with automatic weapons. “The fire was returned, resulting in a gun fight, which lasted for 15 minutes.”
The gun battle ended without any damage on either side.” Militants managed to escape after the gunfight,” the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, a caller identifying himself as spokesman of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) Dr Abdullah Gaznavi told News Agency of Kashmir over phone that its caders carried the attack and claimed responsibility for ambushing the convoy in Sopore and BSF vehicles in Kupwara this afternoon.
The spokesman further claimed that LeT cadres ambushed the Army convoy at Model Town Sopur and Nagam in Handwara, inflicting heavy causalities to the security forces in both the attacks.
