Ranchi : Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren has taken his own government to task. In a letter to Chief Minister Madhu Koda, Soren has criticised the government for allegedly failing to curb rampant corruption.

Soren has pointed out that escalating corruption was hindering development work. “The system of commissions and other forms of corruption are hindering the development of the state,” the letter to Koda says.

His letter, sent Saturday, assumes significance as the Koda government completes one year Tuesday.

“Every one is trying to grab the land of farmers, the Maoist problem is on the rise due to corruption, public transport is suffering due to bad roads, traders are leaving the state (due to) lack of opportunities, no effort has been made to facilitate industrialisation and illegal mining is rampant,” the letter says.

Soren’s letter further alleges that electricity board officials involved in rural electrification charged 20 percent bribe from all contractors and left the work pending for years unless the commission was paid.

Soren also met Governor Syed Sibte Razi Saturday and discussed the situation in the state. The JMM is supporting the Koda government with three ministers in the cabinet.

Soren’s letter has given a big issue to opposition parties of the state.

“Soren’s letter itself speaks about the performance of the Koda government. Corruption is at its peak,” said Pashupati Nath Singh, state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
