Besides, finishing schools will be started for the less privileged people in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to impart training in industry specific skills.

This was stated by Gopal Srinivasan, chairman, CII (Tamil Nadu State Council) and director TVS Electronics Saturday at Connect 2007, an annual event of the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.

The theme of the four-day event, organized here by CII is “ICT: Innovation through integration – building an inclusive ecosystem”. It concludes Tuesday.

Stressing on the need for greater collaboration in the ICT sector, R. Seshasayee, CII past president and managing director, Ashok Leyland said: “Creating clusters of large organisations based on knowledge and intellectual property rights would encourage pre-competitive collaboration and increase resource availability, which is the key for sustainable growth”.

“States enjoy competitive advantage in select sectors. Therefore, it is important for the industry and government to be selective in promoting industries”, he said.

Chairman, Connect 2007 and chief financial officer, Tata Consultancy Services, S. Mahalingam said Tamil Nadu was an attractive destination for the ICT industry.

In his address, chairman, CII (southern region) and chief executive officer, (Technology Business), RPG Enterprises, P.K. Mohapatra appreciated Tamil Nadu’s record of producing quality talent from the tier II and tier III cities of the state.

“Tier II and beyond is a story that Tamil Nadu proudly boasts of and the same needs to be replicated elsewhere,” he said.
