“After completing post surgical tests the prime minister will be discharged from AIIMS on Tuesday, September 18, and will return home,” it added.

On Saturday morning, a team of doctors led by N.P. Gupta, head of the department of urology at AIIMS, conducted the operation to treat benign enlargement of the prostate.

Gupta and his team of doctors conducted an endoscopic surgery to remove the benign enlargements in the prostate gland.

“This growth is only age related and non cancerous,” said a senior doctor at AIIMS, adding that the 75-year-old prime minister has had the prostate problem for over a year.

Doctors at the hospital said that Manmohan Singh, who was in a private ward with close family members in attendance, had tea in the morning and later juice for breakfast Monday.

“He is perfectly well and having food in regular intervals. Doctors attending on him have advised to have more soups and juices,” said a senior doctor.

“His wife is attending him all the time and his daughters are visiting him. No one except his close family members have been allowed to meet him so far,” said another doctor.

His cabinet colleagues have been sending him ‘get well soon’ messages and flowers.

In May 2006, the prime minister had undergone a minor surgery on his left wrist at the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) Hospital here. The operation on the left wrist followed a similar surgical procedure on his right wrist in October 2005.

At times, he also visits AIIMS for eye checkups.
