Dhaka, Sep 18 (IANS) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has assured Bangladesh of assistance in establishing a nuclear power plant.
The Vienna-based agency’s deputy director general and head of nuclear energy, Yuri Sokolov, gave this assurance on an appeal from Science and ICT Advisor Tapan Chowdhury, United News of Bangladesh (UNB) news agency said, quoting a message received here.
Chowdhury asked for IAEA help in formulating an action plan for the proposed nuclear power plant project, planned as a measure to meet Dhaka’s rising energy demand.
The agency was also requested to provide technical support for building the plant.
Besides, Chowdhury sought support for preparatory works for the Rooppur Power Plant located at Pabna in northern Bangladesh, New Age newspaper said.
