Eleven held in Bangalore’s bus burning case

By IANS

Bangalore : Eleven people have been arrested in connection with the setting ablaze of a Tamil Nadu state transport bus here on Sep 18.

Two persons were charred to death in the incident Tuesday night; a short time after a group of 15 to 20 people attacked the residence of the daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in another part of Bangalore.

Officially, police were not willing to give the background of those held. Senior police officials, however, said the 11 have been arrested on charges of arson and culpable homicide.

They declined to say whether any of them were also involved in the attack on the house of Karunanidhi’s daughter Selvi.

Handwritten pamphlets left behind at Selvi’s house in the posh J.P. Nagar locality here criticised Karunanidhi for his remarks on Hindu god Ram.

The Chennai-bound bus of Tamil Nadu state transport was stopped in the city’s outskirts on the road to Hosur in Tamil Nadu and was set on fire after all passengers were asked to get down.

However, police found two bodies after the fire was doused.

Police have not confirmed whether the burning of the bus and the attack on Selvi’s house were related incidents.
