Militant killed in Rajouri, another apprehended in Kashmir

Jammu/Srinagar : A militant was gunned down in an encounter with security forces while another was apprehended in two separate incidents in Rajouri and Handwara districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir that police and army launched a joint operation in a remote area of Rajouri district, early this morning.

The operation was launched by Special Operation Group of police and 60 Rashtriya Rifles after receiving specific inputs about the presence of the militants in the area.

The operation culminated in an encounter in which one militant was shot dead, SP Rajouri TR Katoch told NAK adding, the slain militant has been identified as Abu Asrar alias Gaffar.

One AK-47, three magazines, 90 rounds and one grenade were recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that 21-RR and police apprehended a Hizbul Mujahideen militant from Handwara area.

Identified as Muhammad Ramzan Bhat son of Abdul Ahad Bhat of Changmullah Handwara, the militant was apprehended during a naka checking on Rajwar road, he added.

Four rifle grenades and rifle containing box has been recovered on his disclosure, the spokesman added.
