“I don’t think there is any controversy over the implementation of Phase-II of the Ajai Vikram Singh (AVS) committee report. We all want a fair, reasonable and a just decision. There is no difference on that count among the army, navy and air force,” General Singh said.

The army chief had sent a strong letter to defence minister A.K. Antony last week, accusing the navy and the air force of trying to usurp more posts than they deserve.

The navy wants seven more Vice-Admirals and 16 more Rear Admirals, while the air force wants seven new Air Marshals and 31 new Air Vice-Marshals.

Under the AVS report, the army is slated to get 20 more Lt-Generals (apart from its existing 68) and 75 more Major Generals (216), 220 more Brigadiers (971) and 735 more Colonels (4,186).
