Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh government Friday sanctioned one police station and one traffic police station for Shamshabad on the city outskirts, where the new international airport is scheduled to commence commercial operations in March next year.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy approved the proposals of a police station and a traffic police station in Shamshabad to ensure better law and order and smooth flow of traffic.
The new police station will have a 126-member strong force headed by an assistant commissioner of police. The traffic police station will also have a 100-member force.
“The creation of the new police stations at Shamshabad in addition to the existing one was essential keeping in view the law and order problems and heavy traffic flow due to arrival and departure of 20,000 passengers and nearly 60,000 visitors everyday,” said a statement from the chief minister’s office.
“Hyderabad and neighbouring areas have become terrorist-sensitive and intelligence reports indicate that due to the threat of terrorist activities, the city needs more policing,” it said.
The chief minister had promised to strengthen the police force following the Aug 25 twin blasts in the city.
