“Questioning religion has brought about a lot of positive changes in the state,” Kanimozhi told reporters here.

“The whole controversy is taking away the focus from the Sethusamudram project. It is time to put an end to this discussion,” she said.

“If other faiths come in the way, we will question that also. It’s just that it has not happened till now,” she said answering Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) question whether the DMK patriarch would make similar references to deities of other faiths.

“Everybody knows my father has a good sense of humour and he can be sarcastic when he talks about certain things. If you just quote it, it looks very different from what he meant,” she said.

“In Tamil Nadu, we have questioned and debated about religions. All of a sudden, you cannot take things out of context”, she said, alleging Karunanidhi’s comments on Lord Ram have been taken out of context.

“Inspite of all these discussions, religion has existed in the state. This is the way we have always been and we have a healthy atmosphere in the state,”she said.
