Bhubaneswar : Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places in Orissa with the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places, the Meteorological Department’s Cyclone Warning Centre here said Saturday.
The depression over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, which lay centred close to Puri at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, would cross the east coast near that town, it said.
The system was likely to move in a north-westerly direction resulting in rain and thundershower in most of places in Orissa. Squally winds with speed reaching 45-55 km per hour and gusting to 65 km per hour were likely along and off the Orissa coast, the met office said.
Local cautionary signal No. 3 has been hoisted at all ports in Orissa. As the sea condition was expected to be rough to very rough, fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea.
