Addressing a three-day conference of Dharma Prasar workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad which began here Friday, Nischalananda Saraswati said he was in favour of stricter laws to check people from luring “unsuspecting communities like harijans, tribals and people of backward castes” to convert to other religions.

“In order to restrain the attack on Hindu religion and its philosophy, laws relating to conversion should be amended. Provisions should be made for 10-year rigorous imprisonment and Rs.1 million fine against people found guilty of misguiding poor and innocent people for conversion,” the Shankaracharya told IANS Saturday.

“Unless strict measures are taken, Hindu religion would be at risk from non-Hindus, who are getting huge foreign funds to promote their activities,” he added.
