Baghdad : A US soldier was killed and another wounded when a sophisticated armoured-piercing bomb hit their patrol vehicle in the Iraqi capital, the US military said Sunday.
The incident took place when an Explosively Formed Penetrate (EFP) lying on the roadside detonated near their patrol vehicle during combat operations in eastern Baghdad, a military statement said.
EFP is an explosive designed to penetrate armour effectively. The w3eapon was first developed during World War II.
US officials have accused Iran of providing and training militia in Iraq with these deadly bombs, but Iran denied the accusation.
The latest death brings the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq to about 3,798 since the outbreak of the Iraqi war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
