The explosion occurred in downtown Pristina’s Bill Clinton Boulevard, causing partial collapse of a building there, the police said.

Most of the victims were injured from the building collapse, police spokesman Veton Elshani said, adding that all the 11 injured were sent to a local hospital.

The cause of the blast is still unknown, Elshani said.

Kosovo has been run by the UN for eight years since 1999. Serbia wants to keep it within its border but ethnic Albanians have been demanding complete independence.

A new round of talks over the final status of Kosovo started last month, mediated by troika envoys from the European Union, the US and Russia. They are to report the progress of the talks to the UN secretary general by Dec 10.
