Varadero (Cuba) : Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro met the president of Angola in his first official appearance in three and half months.
Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos termed as historical the meeting with Castro, to whom he expressed his people’s “sympathies when knowing of his illness”.
“I was able to see him recovering, he is strong, enthusiastic, and I conveyed him the wishes of the Angolan people for his prompt recovery”, Dos Santos told reporters in this resort, 87 miles east of Havana.
“I explained (to Castro) the motives of my visit to Cuba now, the aspirations of increasing bilateral cooperation, close links in our friendship that is long-dated and solid,” he added.
“We leave Cuba very satisfied. The results of this visit are very positive,” Dos Santos said.
The Angolan president said Angolan-Cuban cooperation “will widen into economic, financial, scientific, cultural and sports fields”.
