Srinagar : Security forces Monday gunned down the chief operational commander of a guerrilla outfit in a north Kashmir village, 58 km from here in Baramulla district.
Police said troops of 22 Rashtriya Rifles and police surrounded a house in Harde Shiva village on specific information about the presence of militants.
“As the forces zeroed in on the target house, militants opened indiscriminate fire on them which was duly retaliated. In the encounter chief operational commander of the militant group, Al-Barq, Abu Haider Ali was killed,” B. Srinivas, deputy inspector general of police north Kashmir range, told IANS here.
He said Ali was among the most wanted militants in Kashmir.
“Three AK rifles, one wireless set, 14 magazines, 12 grenades, four UBGLs, eight UBGL grenades, 1,500 rounds of ammunition and three pouches have been recovered from the encounter site,” Srinivas said.
