Kolkata : East Bengal football club Wednesday presented South African World Cupper MacDonald Mukansi and Cameroon’s Njoh Jean as their two foreign recruits for the season 2007-08.
Amit Sen, the spokesman of Kingfisher, the main sponsor of the club, introduced the two players and said if they fulfilled the requisition and necessary medical tests, they would be included in the side for the season.
Mashangu MacDonald Mukansi, nicknamed “Scooter”, is a hard runner who has incredible pace down the wing and known for his short range passes. He can also play well as attacking midfielder, winger and striker.
Mukansi has played for South Africa’s national side and participated at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
He also played for clubs in South Africa, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Russia, which includes Jomo Cosmos, Supersport United, Paralimni, CSKA Sofia, Lokomotiv Sofia, SKA-Energya Khabarovsk, Manning Rangers and Amazulu.
He was adjudged as the ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the South African League during the 1997-98 seasons.
Mukansi said his most cherished moment was appearing in the Busan World Cup in 2002, when he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Roque Santa Cruz, Raul and Roberto Perez.
Jean, who speaks French and plays for Manning Rangers in South Africa, is a thorough striker and an opportunist.
He said, “I have played in the Turkish side of Cyprus for their top club Kaimagli.”
