Mumbai : Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of India’s most wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim, Wednesday surrendered before a special court here and sought bail in the multi-billion rupees Sara Sahara shopping mall case in central Mumbai.
The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court acquitted Kaskar in June this year, in the case related to illegal construction of the Sara-Sahara shopping mall complex. Prior to this he had spent several months in the high-security Arthur Road jail.
Kaskar was alleged to have aided his brother Dawood in constructing the complex illegally.
Following this, the Maharashtra government had appealed in the Bombay High Court against Kaskar and five others connected in the case. The High Court last week admitted the appeal and ordered Kaskar’s re-arrest.
Following his surrender, Kaskar sought bail and the MCOCA court is to hear the matter later this week.
