Jaipur : The Rajasthan government will soon launch a traffic help line to save the life of people injured in road accidents.

“Looking at the growing incidence of road accidents, the need for a traffic help line is being felt. We are planning to start it soon,” Navdeep Singh, a senior traffic police official said.

The help line would have a toll free number and in case of any emergency police and medical teams would rush to the site.

Last year, Rajasthan had the highest number of road accident related deaths in the country.

According to a local media report, at least 2,400 persons lost their lives in 10,000 odd road accidents in the state.

Meanwhile, a campaign against overloaded vehicles is picking up.

“The 15-day campaign, which started from September 20 would continue till October 5 and owners of overloaded vehicles are being penalised,” Rajasthan’s Transport Minister Younis Khan said.

The department has deputed magistrates on the 79 check posts across the state. The services of 237 police personnel are also being used.
