Bangalore : Over 2,000 police personnel will be on duty to ensure smooth conduct of first India-Australia One-Day match here on Sep 29.
City Police Commissioner N Achuta Rao went over the security details in the Chinnaswamy stadium Thursday evening for the match to be played under lights.
Several hundred men in khaki were ferried to the venue in buses for a security drill Thursday.
Earlier Thursday morning, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) President Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and secretary Brijesh Patel met top police officials and discussed the security arrangements.
“KSCA and police agree that smooth conduct of the match is the main priority and have decided to mutually cooperate to ensure the same,” Deputy Commissioner of Police B. N. S. Reddy told reporters after the meeting with Wadiyar and Patel.
The city police were upset as no one from the KSCA turned up for an earlier meeting on Sep 19 to discuss security needs.
However, on Thursday Reddy played down the episode and said there were “some confusions” and all the issues have been “sorted out”.
The stadium can accommodate around 50,000 people. Of these only 12,000 seats are for the general public and the rest for members of the KSCA, affiliated cricket clubs and other state cricket bodies.
With the recent successes of Team India, police expect a full house Saturday.
