Bhubaneswar, Sep 28 (IANS) Armed men looted a bank in Orissa Friday and took away Rs.3.5 million at gunpoint, police said.
Eight men entered United Commercial Bank in Rourkela, some 450 km from state capital, soon after the bank opened at 9.30 a.m. and held a bank employee hostage, a senior district police official told IANS.
They threatened to kill the employee if the bank’s strong room was not opened for them. The bank officials opened the strong room and the men decamped with the cash, said the officials.
The looters were all Hindi speaking and police suspect that they could be from neighbouring Jharkhand state. The bank manager has lodged a complaint with the police.
