The three-day ‘Gandhi Jayanti Mela’ is being organised at Pragati Maidan here by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Delhi mayor Arti Mehra Saturday said, the event aims to spread the message of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, among the masses, which will inform people about its relevance in the contemporary world.

“The event not only aims at popularising Gandhian values, but will also showcase the progress and achievements of the MCD and other government organisations in the capital,” Mehra said.

She said one of the salient features of the celebration is ‘Akhand Charkha Yajna’ in which children from Gandhian organisations will spin Khadi round the clock for three days in supervision of veteran Gandhians.

Nearly 45 non-governmental Gandhian organisations and 15 government departments like department of primary education, health, horticulture, engineering etc. will participate in the event.

Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Fire Service, Punjabi Academy, Hindi Academy, Sanskrit Academy, Information and Publicity Directorate, Delhi State Aids Control Society, Songs and Drama Division and many others will put-up their pavilions at the venue depicting detailed account of their public services.

About 15,000 school children will be made aware of the Gandhian philosophy, she said.
