Musharraf files nomination papers for re-election

Islamabad : Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday filed the nomination papers for President General Pervez Musharraf as presidential candidate with the Election Commission.

The Prime Minister, who was the proposer, with Minister for Culture Dr. Syaid Ghazi Ghulab Jamal as the seconder, talking to reporters soon after filing the papers termed the day as historical for Pakistan and for the future of democracy in the country.

Seventeen nomination papers for President Musharraf were filed with Chief Election Commissioner Justice ® Qazi Muhammad Farooq by the PML and allied parties, with various leaders, members of the parliament, ministers and chief ministers as proposers and seconders.

“We fully believe that President General Pervez Musharraf, who is candidate of the PML and allied parties, will succeed,” the Prime Minister said.

He said President Musharraf’s re-election will be a major positive development for Pakistan and the region.

PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed said the President will doff his uniform after his re-election and said his party desired national political reconciliation in the country and would hold discussions with all the parties on issues confronting the country.

Besides Prime Minister Aziz, the nomination papers for President Musharraf were also filed by PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and State Minister for Education Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli as proposer and seconder, respectively.

The papers were submitted by Wasim Sajjad as the chief polling agent for the President.

Five nomination papers for Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain, and one for Chairman Senate Muhammadmian Soomro as covering candidates for the President were also submitted with the Election commission
