Myanmar signs oil exploration agreement with Indian firm

Nay Pyi Taw : The Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) of the Ministry of Energy and ONGC Videsh Limited of India have signed production sharing contracts at the ministry here for off-shore exploration of oil and natural gas in Rakhine State.

Under the agreements signed here on Sept 23, they will drill oil and natural gas wells in blocks AD-2, AD-3 and AD-9 off the Rakhine coast.

Present at the signing ceremony were Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission Minister for Science and Technology and for Labour U Thaung, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Attorney-General U Aye Maung, Indian Minister for Oil and Natural Gas Murli S. Deora and Ambassador of India to Myanmar Bhaskar Kumar Mitra.

MOGE Managing Director U Myint Htay, R.S. Butola, Director-General of Energy Planning Department U Soe Myint and Director Joeman Thomas of the Indian company signed the contracts and exchanged the documents.

Murli S. Deora and his party left here on Monday.
