Chennai : World chess champion Vishwanathan Anand’s father here said that the tournament was tough and “highly thrilling event, but provided a happy result in the end”.
“Though my chess knowledge isn’t remotely comparable to that of my son, I can say on the basis of whatever I know that I could see the final was headed for a draw halfway through the game,” said K. Vishwanathan here Sunday.
“Anand made his some brilliant moves second-guessing his opponent. The advent of live-telecast helped us see the game as it was being played. Though we knew the result, I waited for my son to confirm it, which he did within five minutes of being declared the world champion.”
When asked what he thought about cricket being most popular and better paying sport in the country, Vishwanathan said: “The Chess World Championship is a game that has more nations participating in it.”
