On Friday the US Senate passed a resolution calling for the creation of separate Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish federal regions in Iraq.

The recent ratification shows the repetition of mistake made by the Americans in dealing with Iraq, he said, adding that this is among the grave mistakes which they will be forced to correct.

“We consider such measures as being against the efforts of Maliki’s government which strives to bring about national unity and solidarity in Iraq,” he said Saturday.

“Iran underlines the need to respect the country’s political developments as well as its constitution which is based on democracy,” he said.

Iran supports Maliki’s government, he pointed out.

The Iraqi people should make decision on their fate through legal channels and this is their right to do so, he said.

Hosseini lambasted such measures which sought to disrupt unity and solidarity in Iraq and create insecurity and crisis in the country and the whole region.
