Cairo : Egypt criticized on Wednesday the Israeli government’s settlement expansion and its plan to build hundreds of new settlements in Eastern Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abu Gheit told the press the Israeli politics go against all efforts to reach peace and justice, as was pledged to be achieved by year end by the US.
Abu Gheit referred to the recent report of Israeli “Peace Now” on increasing settlement activities since the Nablus conference.
He meanwhile welcomed the decision approved by the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Israeli settlement activities, considering such activities violation of human rights law and abortion of all efforts towards peace.
The Egyptian minister called upon the international community, headed by the quartet and the US, to pressure Israel to stop settlement activities, and put efforts towards reaching a peace agreement.
