Indian equities market opens with an upswing

Mumbai : The Indian equities market Thursday opened in the green in line with its Asian peers.

The 30-share benchmark sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange opened with a gain of 55.23 points at 15,805.63. Thirty minutes into trading, the Sensex was at 15,833.79 points, up by 83.39 compared to its previous close.

At the same time the S&P Nifty of National Stock Exchange was at 4,757.25, up by a marginal 4 points from its previous close.

The market breadth was positive with low volumes. In the initial trade 980 scrips advanced, 790 declined and 40 remained unchanged.

Other Asian markets were trading firm. Japan’s Nikkei was up 0.09 percent or 11.35 points at 13,200.71. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.62 percent or 147.33 points at 24,019.76. Singapore’s Straits Times rose 0.43 percent or 13.31 points at 3,137.92. South Korea’s Seoul Composite advanced 0.65 percent or 11.26 points at 1,753.45. However, Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted was down 0.07 percent or 5.75 points at 8,599.57.

HUL, ICICI Bank, BHEL, Sterlite and Cairn were among the gainers in early trade here while ACC, Grasim, SAIL, Tata Steel, Reliance Energy and Tata Power were among the losers.
