Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul granted bail to Sandhu on bond of Rs.50,000 and a surety of the same amount.

Opposing Sandhu’s plea, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel said he can destruct evidence if let off on bail. However, Sandhu’s counsel pointed out that all other accused in the case are already out on bail and there is no point to denying his client bail.

The CBI arrested Sandhu in August last year.

The agency registered the case July 24 charging Malhotra and seven others with fraudulently getting plots allotted meant for rehabilitation of slum dwellers displaced from Hudson Line and Outrom Line in 1983-84.

The investigating agency had seized 17 luxury cars, six two-wheelers and found over 100 bank accounts having a balance of about Rs.20 million belonging to Malhotra.
