Kathmandu : A team of British parliamentarians will be in Nepal from April 7 to April 11 to observe Nepal’s elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA), local newspaper The Rising Nepal reported on Monday.

The parliamentarian team is part of the UK Election Observation Group of around 28 observers who will be present at the polling stations across Nepal, according to the British Embassy in Kathmandu.

The report quoted head of delegation MP Mark Lancaster as saying, “We are delighted to come to Nepal to observe these crucial elections. It is a historic opportunity for the Nepalese people to decide the future of their country. Free and fair elections are an important step in the peace process and will pave the way for the formation of a prosperous and democratic Nepal.”

Other members of the team are MPs James Gray and Adam Holloway and Lord Lea and Lord Rogan.

The UK government has given financial support to different organizations to deploy international election observers in Nepal.

The Constituent Assembly to be formed after April 10 elections is to decide the future political setup of Nepal and the monarchy of the country.
