The army said in a press release that the soldier died when a bomb exploded near his vehicle in east Baghdad, witnessing fierce clashes between militias and Multi-National Forces (MNF).

The release did not reveal any more information about the incident.

On Sunday, two soldiers had been killed with mortars that crashed into the Baghdad “green zone,” one died at an American base, another in a bomb blast in the governorate of Diyala, and another because of non-combat action.

With the new casualty figure, the death toll suffered by the American forces in Iraq has climbed to 4,019 since March 2003.
