Erekat told a news conference Sunday that the closed-door meeting between the two men which was held in Jerusalem ended without any gurantees to Abbas. However, Abbas called on Olmert to live up to his promise regarding vital supplies to people in Gaza.

Erekat noted that “Palestinians in Gaza are part of the Palestinian people, ” adding that the “president is responsible for any Palestinian anywhere.”

Meanwhile, the Palestinian president “fully supports Egypt’s effort in this regard, including efforts to preserve Palestinian national unity and rejects all threats which target Egypt and its national security,” Erekat said.

The Palestinian official also said that Abbas called on Olmert to respond to Egypt’s efforts in bringing calm to Gaza.

The unannounced meeting between Abbas and Olmert took place one week after a meeting between both of them.
