Beijing : China and Pakistan have vowed to deepen economic cooperation and widen bilateral trade to achieve the $15 billion mark.
A joint statement issued Tuesday at the end of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s six-day state visit said the two countries would further expand their cooperation in science and technology and culture and cooperate at international fora.
China expressed its readiness to provide full support to Pakistan’s economic development. Energy, mineral and mining sectors are among the potential areas of cooperation, said the statement.
China agreed to strengthen cooperation in the financial sector, and to extend more support for projects under the China-Pakistan Joint Five Year Economic and Trade Cooperation Plan.
Both sides pledged to take steps to upgrade transportation and communication networks to enhance exchanges between the business enterprises and people in bordering areas.
Musharraf arrived in southern China’s Hainan province April 10 to take part in the Boao Forum for Asia economic meeting and met Chinese President Hu Jintao.
During his Beijing visit, he met top legislator Wu Bangguo, premier Wen Jiabao and political advisor Jia Qinglin, among other Chinese leaders.
