Beijing : Chinese doctors have been asked to confirm whether the patients are athletes before prescribing dope-containing medicines as the Beijing Olympic Games draw near.
A circular issued by the health ministry said, to tighten the management on dope-containing medicines, doctors must write their identity on the prescription with clear marks of “dope-containing medicines” if they are athletes.
It is suggested that doctors should not prescribe dope-containing medicines to athletes. But, if the need be, patients must be informed about the effect and that doctors should not prescribe such medicines without getting a signed agreement from the athletes.
Pharmacists have also been asked to double-check the prescriptions of dope-containing drugs with doctors.
The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) announced the list of banned drugs last month.
