By NNN-KUNA,

Cairo : The Arab League has said that achieving a lasting and just peace in the Middle East will not materialise if all Arab and Palestinian prisoners are not released from Israeli jails.

The League condemned in a press release Wednesday, the eve of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, the Israeli inhumane practices against the Arab and Palestinian prisoners.

It called on the international community, Arab and international organisations to help guarantee the rights of the Arab prisoners in Israel.

Israel is continuing its inhumane policies against some 11,000 Arab and Palestinian prisoners, it said, and the Jewish state is also evading its commitments towards human rights under the Geneva conventions.

Israel is the only country in the world which began torture and arrests, with its army committing the most vicious crimes against the Palestinian people, said the League.

The Israeli army forces have arrested more than one third of the Palestinian people since 1967, it added.
