Rebel ICL seeks ICC recognition

Mumbai : The International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Malcolm Speed Wednesday told reporters here that the rebel Indian Cricket League has sought recognition from the world governing organisation of the game.

ICL, floated by the Essel Group of media baron Subash Chandra, for the first time approached the ICC for recognition and the matter was under consideration, said Speed.

Speed said that ICL lawyers contacted ICC tebn days ago, seeking recognition and the ICC was awaiting its lawyers’ advice before firming up its stand as it is a highly complicated legal issue.

Speed pointed out that the Indian cricket board also did not state in writing whether ICL was an unauthorized event.

The ICC chief executive said the issue needed to be addressed by going into legal aspects as every country had its own laws on matters of trade and competition.
