Kuala Lumpur : An earthquake of 5.1 magnitude occurred in Samar, about 333km northeast of Cebu, in the Philippines today.
The earthquake, which occurred at 1.25pm, was located at 12.9 degrees North latitude and 125.3 degrees East longitude, some 1,113km northeast of Sandakan, Sabah, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said.
It said in a statement the quake posed no threat of a tsunami.
