Punjab smuggler held with Rs.35 mn worth heroin

Amritsar (Punjab) : A notorious drugs smuggler was Monday arrested here by the special narcotics cell of the Punjab police and 3.5 kg of heroin worth Rs.35 million was recovered from his possession.

The smuggler, Davinder Singh, was arrested from Chheharta area of this Sikh holy city as he came to deliver the consignment of the drugs to another person. His accomplice Balbir Singh managed to escape.

Police officials said the smuggler’s family had links with Pakistan-based terrorist Paramjit Singh Panjwar of the Khalistan Commando Force. His brother, Swaran Singh, is already lodged in Amritsar jail in another drug case.

The police believe that the consignment was routed through Pakistan from Afghanistan.
