BCCI curator inspects Eden Gardens pitch

By IANS,

Kolkata : Chief curator of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Daljit Singh flew down to Kolkata Tuesday to inspect and take immediate remedial actions on the pitch prepared for the Twenty20 matches at Eden Gardens here.

“The wicket for the Kolkata Knight Riders versus Hyderabad Deccan Chargers match at Edens Sunday was not suitable for the game. It had uneven bounce and could be dangerous for the players. But we promise to provide a better pitch for the next match,” Singh told reporters here.

“Kolkata’s soil has high sand content and hence, develop cracks and crumbles easily. This time too the upper crust of the pitch has come off,” he said.

“I have already given instructions to the ‘maalis’ (gardeners). They have started watering the pitch. Light and heavy rollers have been brought to even the pitch,” he added.

Singh will have a meeting with CAB members, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly and coach John Buchanan over the pitch.
