Election Pakistan to support China’s candidate for Secretary General WCO election

Beijing : Pakistan has assured to support China’s candidate for election of Secretary General of World Customs Organization (WCO), as a representative from the developing countries.

The support to China was extended on Tuesday when request in this regard was made

by Chinese Minister for Customs Administration Sheng Guangzu during a meeting here with the Secretary General and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Abdullah Yusuf who was leading the Pakistani delegation, said a press release.

Shen welcoming the Pakistani delegation at a meeting that was also attended by Ambassador Salman Bashir recalled the good and friendly relations with Pakistan and expressed the hope that these ties would further deepen with the passage of time.

He stressed the need for increasing mutual cooperation to curb smuggling specially that of arms, ammunition and drugs leading to ensure improved security, increase in bilateral trade, the press release said.

Chairman FBR Abdullah Yusuf congratulated Mr. Sheng Guangzu on his appointment as Minister of Customs and said that China is our brotherly country and Pakistan would definitely extend full support to the Chinese candidate for the post of Secretary General WCO.

Abdul Yusuf pointed out that his country considers China’s success means success of Pakistan.

He welcomed the Chinese suggestion of enhancement of mutual cooperation between the two customs and invited Chinese Minister of Customs to visit Pakistan. Chairman FBR also stressed upon the Chinese Minister for exchange of data on the basis of each and every transaction to control the menace of under invoicing in import to Pakistan from China.

It was mutually agreed to make specialized teams from both the sides for formulating further modalities on this subject. The Minister of Customs China accepted the Chairman’s invitation to visit Pakistan and formation of team for date exchange and extension of maximum cooperation to Pakistan.

Ambassador Salman Bashir speaking on the occasion congratulated the minister on the successful President Pervez Musharraf’s recently concluded 6-day state visit to China.

He stressed the need for closer economic integration and broader management cooperation between the two countries.

The Ambassador also suggested for maximum cooperation for full utilization of Karakorum Highway.

He also mentioned the suggestion made by President Musharraf regarding establishment of Rail Link between China and Pakistan.
