Kolkata : The kingpin of the racket in the state Joint Entrance Examination, who allegedly leaked this year’s medical entrance question papers, was Wednesday arrested by the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“We have arrested Manas Patra, the kingpin of the racket, from Tikiapara area in Kolkata’s twin district Howrah. We intercepted him when he was boarding a bus,” CID Special Inspector General Niraj Narayan Pandey told IANS.
He said that Manas was absconding since the Joint Entrance Examination papers were leaked from the state-run Saraswati Press. Manas, an employee of the printing press, allegedly took the question papers and sold them to students.
“We have arrested three people so far in connection with the case. We are now interrogating them to get more information about the racket,” Pandey said.
Mihir Dandapar, 49, and Arun Chowdhury, 35, were arrested from West Midnapore district April 19.
About 100 sets of question papers were recovered from Arun’s residence, the police said. Mihir sold the entire set of question papers for Rs.200,000 to two students in Ghatal area of the same district, the police said.
