New Delhi: Dr. Sayed Mahmood Naqvi, an Emeritus Scientist of National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) was awarded ‘National Mineral Award for Excellence-2006” in New Delhi today. Sis Ram Ola, Minister of Mines conferred the award to Dr. Naqvi.
22 Eminent Geoscientists, Engineers, and Technologists received National Mineral Award for the year 2006. The National Mineral Awards instituted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India in the year 1966 are presented every year for outstanding contribution in the fields of mineral discovery & explorations, fundamental and applied geosciences and mining & allied disciplines. The National Mineral Award for Excellence is conferred on an eminent earth scientist for his lifetime achievement.
Dr. Syed Mahmood Naqvi is also a fellow of Indian National Science Academy. He has worked for more than 40 years in the field of Geology and Geochemistry of various rock types of India. He has published more than 200 research papers and authored or edited seven books published by prestigious scientific book publishers.
In 1983, Dr. Naqvi was awarded prestigious Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award for Earth Sciences. In 1990 he won the National Mineral Award.
Born on August 28th, 199, Dr. Naqvi specializes in Precambrian Geology and Geochemistry. He has made important contributions to the understanding of the evolution of the South Indian Arachaean Craton.
