Baghdad : Three U.S. soldiers were killed in a mortar or rocket attack in eastern Baghdad on Monday, the U.S. military said.
The soldiers were killed as a result of indirect-fire attack in eastern Baghdad, the U.S. military said in a statement.
The statement issued on Monday did not give a more exact location of the incident, but Sadr City and other militia strongholds are in that area, which has been the scene of fierce fighting over the past month between militants and U.S. and Iraqi forces.
Earlier on Monday, the military said 38 militants were killed during overnight clashes in eastern Baghdad.
The latest deaths brought the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq to more than 4,055 since the outbreak of U.S.-led invasion in2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
