Bhopal : The Madhya Pradesh government Wednesday announced improving the Chambal canal system under its water restructuring project with an expenditure of Rs.4.25 billion.
“Improvement of main canal of Chambal canal system would bring 273,000 hectare area of 756 villages in Morena, Bhind and Sheopur districts under irrigation and would lead to considerable increase in the yields,” said an official of the water resources department.
The Chambal Valley Project is a joint venture of the Madhya Pradesh and the Rajasthan governments. Gandhi Sagar Dam has been built in Madhya Pradesh while Maharana Pratap Sagar Dam, Jawahar Sagar Dam and Kota Barrage have been constructed in Rajasthan from where Chambal left and Chambal right canals emanate.
