The two sides outlined their common stand on regional and international developments and underlined the need to continue mutual and international cooperation to help restore peace and stability to the world.

The two sides also discussed various topics such as regional and international developments, terrorism, drug trafficking, defence, nuclear disarmament, and the need for destruction of chemical and bio-chemical weapons.

Iran’s proposal package has provided a new opportunity for constructive cooperation through restoration of regional and international peace and stability and those who have adopted positive stand on the issue should welcome it, Jalili said after the talks Tuesday.

World powers should recognise multipolar system and stand shoulder to shoulder to resolve global issues through convergence and avoiding confrontations, he said.

Iran has always called for dialogue in resolving regional and international problems, he added.

The Russian envoy, for his part, thanked Iran for its hospitality and said Russia supports Iran’s legitimate rights to peaceful application of nuclear technology.

He expressed hope that Iran and the IAEA would continue cooperation and said the IAEA is the only specialised body which can judge and help resolve nuclear disputes among world countries.

Sobolev, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tehran on Sunday night.

The Russian envoy is to confer with a number of high-ranking Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran.

He is scheduled to leave Tehran on Wednesday.
