Greater Noida : A man detained for his alleged involvement in a theft case has died in police custody but there are conflicting versions about how he lost his life.
While the officer-in-charge of Kasna station, Amar Deep, said the victim died after he was thrashed by public after committing the theft, the Noida police chief said Kumar had committed suicide inside the police station.
Senior Superintendent of Police R.K. Chaturvedi said: ” A case of suicide inside the police station has been registered with the Kasna police.”
Amar Deep and the head clerk of the Kasna police station have been suspended after the incident.
According to sources, Krishna Kumar, a resident of Kondali village, was detained at the Kasna police station Friday night after being suspected of being involved in the theft of ceiling fans from the Galgotia Institute.
He died at the Kailash Hospital in Noida Saturday morning.
Kumar’s autopsy report has not revealed any external injuries on his body.
