Egypt is concerned about the fresh friction between rival Palestinian movements Fatah and Hamas, trying to stem the Palestinian bloodletting, a senior official was quoted by the official MENA news agency as saying.

Egypt, who has been exerting efforts to resume the inter-Palestinian dialogue, exchanged views with the leadership of the two Palestinian movements, said the source.

The two Palestinian factions have been exchanging arrests and crackdown since a bombing attack last Friday on a Hamas militants’ car in western Gaza City that killed five Hamas militants and a little girl.

On Saturday, two Hamas policemen and one child were killed and 60 others wounded in clashes between Hamas police forces and a pro-rival Fatah movement clan in Gaza City, a Hamas spokesman said.

Efforts are exerted by Egypt and other Palestinian political factions, including the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement to stop the mutual escalations between the two movements and prepare the ground for dialogue.
