After blasts, curbs at three Gujarat railway stations

Ahmedabad : A week after serial bombings here and recovery of more than 20 bombs in Surat, the Western Railway authorities Sunday imposed restrictions at railway stations of three major cities of Gujarat to check against terrorist acts.

The railway administration has decided to restrict issue of platform tickets at the Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat railway stations with immediate effect, a Western Railway statement said here Sunday.

Only passengers with valid tickets shall be permitted to enter the station platform. Those coming to the stations to send off or receive passengers will not be allowed to enter station premises till further orders, it said.

This restriction shall be relaxed for people accompanying the physically challenged, children or old passengers, the statement said.

Ahmedabad was rocked by 21 serial bombings July 26, in which 51 people were killed and more than 200 injured. Over the following three days, a cache of explosives and 21 bombs were recovered from Surat.
